Marketing & Research Assistant - Summer Student Position

The Sydney Airport Authority is a not-for-profit society with a mandate to serve the Cape Breton community by providing safe, reliable, accessible transportation to the travelling public. The Board of Directors and Management work with various community groups to promote tourism in Cape Breton. The airport is a point of entry for many visitors to Cape Breton Island and is an ideal location to promote business and tourism.

The Marketing & Research Assistant summer student position provides a student with the opportunity to gain experience in the areas of marketing, communications, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

He/she/they will work with community organizations to gather marketing material and will be expected to become familiar with current & upcoming summer events & activities. He/she/they will engage directly with customers throughout the airport terminal, using the Visitor Information kiosk in the main terminal as a base. He/She/They will provide answers to questions and inform travelers on current & upcoming events, festivals and other activities in Cape Breton. They will provide information about accommodations, restaurants, golf courses, beaches, tourist attractions, etc. The student will be responsible to maintain an inventory of marketing material and to order new material as needed. In addition to meeting and greeting passengers, he/she/they will be responsible for engaging directly with customers to illicit their participation in our annual passenger survey. He/she/they will compile the survey results, analyze the data and finally produce a report for use by the CEO and Board of Directors.

Other business and office administration duties may be included in this position.

The student would preferably be bilingual and enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Administration/Commerce program, a related diploma program; Public Relations program; or tourism-related program. They should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Internet applications. The student should be reliable, diligent, creative, demonstrate a positive attitude at all times, wear appropriate and professional attire and be very comfortable engaging directly in conversation and making inquiries with customers.

The student will work under the supervision of the Manager of Finance and Administration.

Those selected for an interview will be required to provide references and proof that they will be attending full-time, recognized university or college for the September, 2019 school year.

Grade 12 students who are attending university or college in September 2019 may apply but must be available for work starting June 17, 2019.

Hourly Rate: $12.50 per hour
Employment Period: Minimum 8 weeks, Maximum 10 weeks
Hours: Will vary throughout the term and could include very early start times.
